Barons Backgammon Coming Back
Known for their late-night backgammon, many might have been disappointed with the closing this month of The Kings Cross drinking den, however there are documents that show there are plans in recreating Baron's.

Michael Cherote, the venue's licensee, has went to the City of Sydney Council, seeking their permission to reopen in 2009, as a bar, and trading until 6 a.m. under a theatre license.

"That's more the sort of closing time the Baron's clientele is accustomed to. A nightclub licence only lets us go until 3am," said Cherote.

He also stated that getting the approval for the new bar would certainly help the chances in approaching the Liquor Licensing Board for a theatre license.

"We will be keeping the name. We are going to get the Baron's feel back: we'll keep the chesterfield lounges; we'll retain the woodwork theme, the ambience," said Cherote.

After thousands of petitions were gathered, protesting against redevelopment of Baron's, and a long battle was had, the City of Sydney did grant the owner, Ron White, their permission in turning the establishment into a four-story office, nightclub and restaurant.

Many locals are in great opposition against Cherote's proposal in the recreation of Baron's.
