This was the 34th annual Monte Carlo World Championship and it was held at the Fairmont Hotel. 173 players competed in the event for their piece of a €200,000 prize fund.
Such competitors as Gus Hansen, Matvey “Falafel” Natanzon, Neil Kazaross and Francois Tardieu competed in the event but were unable to come up with the win. The week’s festivities kicked off with George Benson greeting competitors at an opening gala and then the competition began.
