Movie Uses Backgammon as Key Component in Plot
Backgammon plays a key role in the award winning Bulgarian film “The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner” that was based on the autobiographical novel by Ilija Trojanow. The movie has been released in Bulgaria for a few months now and it has already earned E60, 000. This is a great feat for a Bulgarian movie as they only have one hundred and twenty screens so the above number is quite good. The ancient board game plays a pivotal part in the movie as a man helps his adult grandson overcome amnesia after he was in a car crash.
The producer and distributor Stefan Kitanov commented: “The two always shared a passion for backgammon and the grandfather uses this as a way of reconnecting with his grandson. The battle of wits on the board is a subtle way of giving the grandson the will and spirit to live again.”
The movie has a large backgammon scene toward the end of the movie that is truly heartwarming. Backgammon players and lovers alike will enjoy watching the movie as the pair of men discover life around the backgammon board.
