Strawberry Hill High Stakes Backgammon Tournament offering big prizeThe Strawberry Hill High Stakes Backgammon Tournament is an annual event that takes place in Jamaica and this year the event took place this past weekend. Twenty two players competed in the tournament which offered $2 million in cash and prizes.
Alastair MacBeath was the reigning champion of the tournament and he came back to defend his title. This is the fifth year of the tournament and each year it gets better and better. The tournament began with the players warming up with a ritual pre-Game day tournament. The winner of this tournament would win the Dickie Jobson Memorial Trophy.
The official tournament kicked off Saturday and would play out by the end of the day. The final rounds would take place on Sunday and the winner was crowned in the evening on Sunday. It was Michael Hirst who would outlast the competition and take the first place win of the tournament.
The backgammon player would win the trophy with a score of 15-12 and earn $455,000 for the win. Along with the cash, Hirst won a weekend for two at Island Outpost properties, six
months membership to Gymkhana as well as a Sony Ericsson W810 telephone from Digicel.
