Uli Koch Wins London Open Backgammon Championship
The first ever CasinoRip London Open Backgammon Championship concluded this past weekend and it was German Uli Koch who bested Julian Fetterlein during the final to take the first place prize. Players from all over the world came to compete in the first ever tournament including players from Romania, Japan and the United States. Fifty six players participated in the tournament while thirty players participated in the intermediate and casual competitions and the total prize pool was over £12,000.
The director for event organizers Backgammon in London, Mike Main, commented on the tournament stating: “The quality of play and a gorgeous setting made it a truly fantastic weekend and produced one of the most exciting events I can remember. Congratulations must go to both our finalists and a big thank you to all the competitors and our sponsors CasinoRip for helping to make it such a successful tournament.”
Koch is a professional player who is well respected in the backgammon world. He has competed in several tournaments since he began his career in the 1970s and he competed in several rounds of the tournament before facing Fetterlein in the finals, another player who is also well respected in the game of backgammon. So the finals were very interesting to watch as both players are outstanding backgammon players.
